Governance Strengthening Program
A civic Program aiming to empower all levels of the community, most especially the youth, to make well-informed and sustainable policy decisions.
Encourage youth participation and voice in the policy level by highlighting existing government structures and processes for the youth voice to engage in policy decision-making;
Explore barriers to youth civic engagement by creating an enabling space to dialogue and work with the youth in their respective youth lens towards developing sustainable solutions to the social issues effecting their population, including adapting to their changing natural environment, civic rights & responsibilities, mental wellness surrounding youth social issues, etc.
The Program provides technical support and practical information for the youth representatives to work with their community and CBOs towards raising public awareness and enhance understanding on social issues and norms that are affecting and detrimental to youth population
Implementing institution and partners involved in the project
"The Ministry of State, Bureau of Domestic Affairs is mandated towards facilitation & coordination approach of the whole of government and 16 state communities towards strengthening institutional capacities and dissemination of public policy information. Realizing and recognizing that there is a lack of youth presence and voices at the policy decision-making level; the Bureau is aiming to partner with national government ministries and agencies operating at the policy level to create an enabling space to work with youth representatives from the 16 state governments. This enabling space will give youth population a well-informed and a safe space to dialogue, explore common sustainable solutions and to formalize positions to engage within the policy promulgation & rule making processes."

"The Governance Strengthening Program for Youth is being maintained by the Bureau of Domestic Affairs with support from partnering ministries and agencies. Faced with shortfalls we’re seeking interested partners towards sustaining future Programs to strengthen youth engagement and voices at the policy and decision-making level."
Achievements & indicators
Evaluations from a recent Governance Strengthening Program for the Youth of Hatohobei State and for the Youth of Aimeliik State held in July 2024 demonstrates youth interest for having more of similar activities.
Program goal is to highlight and strengthen the Youth voices within the policy deliberations and decision making by seeking support and resources to strengthen engagement with the youth allowing them to design and personalize the best way for them to engage at the policy and decision-making level.
